Cool Runnings

I’ve put together a mix of running races in London this Summer (ok I’ve included one in October) to keep you motivated. If you’re anything like me I always find it much easier to exercise when I have a goal in mind. Whether that’s a specific race or an achievement like a PB, a schedule goal like run 3 times a week for 6 months or working on technique it really keeps you going! Let me know what you think and if you sign up to any!
5km Roman Rampage – 20th May
This is a 5km team race where you need to solve a crime from the Roman London period. It definitely does not sound like your average race. However if you like problem solving and want to get outdoors and do something a little different then I think this sounds great. They have a series of races some with longer distances so if you can’t make this one there are others throughout the year. The race will cost between £16-20. Well why the heck not?
Run Through Lee Valley Races – 27th May
Although there’s not much time until this one there are plenty of distances to choose from which include 1mile, 5km, 10km, 10 mile or Half Marathon. This is on the May bank holiday so you’ve got an extra day to recover, woo! Run Through have a whole heap of different races, another I have mentioned for July. The prices for this race range from £10-18 which I think is a bargain!
Richmond 10 mile – June 4th
I’m signed up to this race and it sounds just lovely. Richmond Park is part of the Royal Parks and up to 10,000 participants will be running on closed roads within these beautiful grounds, you may even spot some deer on your way. If you like a non lap raceand moving on from the 10km distance this is a great place to start. It’s also only 5km shy of a half marathon. The race fee is £44 but it includes photos, a goody bag and a medal. Perhaps I’ll see you on the 4th.
Chase the Sun Wimbledon Park – 12th July
Another race curated by Run Through. The idea is to run either a 5km or a 10km before the sun goes down. I really love the concept of chasing the sun. It starts at 7pm and the time for the sunset is 9.13pm on the 12th July so plenty of time. Although I would check that that’s definitely the race cut off time 🙂 The race is nice and cheap at £16 and includes a Chase the Sun medal.
Regents Park 10k Series – 6th August
I still can’t believe I haven’t done one of these races! This series runs every year from April to September on the 1st Sunday of every month. So if you can’t make the August one there’s still June, July and September to choose from. The June one however does clash with my lovely Richmond Park race though. The race is £16-18, time chipped with km markers and water stations.
ZSL London Zoo Run – 17th Sep
Well who wouldn’t want to do a 5km or 10km race with free entry into London Zoo afterwards? The entry fee is £34 with a minimum fundraising target of £50 which goes to the ZSL charity. So if you’re a fan of running and animals then this would be right up your street. Also a great way to finish off a race with a day out with the family!
Royal Parks Half Marathon – 9th October
Although the ballot for this years race is now closed and yes I did get a place, there are still charity and corporate places going. This is an extra special one as it’s their 10 year anniversary. Their famous route will take you through Hyde Park, Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens. Fingers crossed will still have nice whether in early October!
Good Luck for anyone participating in a race this year. Let me know if you find any other cool running events! Love preparedtotri x
